Trip Overview Photo Doug Elsey
The name says it all; learn to take better pictures, have a whole lot of fun, and paddle to some great places for some fantastic photo shoots.
We’ll meet at the White Squall Paddling Centre on the first morning for introductions and orientation. Then we’ll head out to the bay (likely leaving from Snug Harbour access point) for our trip. Once there, we’ll load up our boats and have a short paddle before lunch. We'll make our way toward the Cathcart Islands where we can explore Sandy Island, Snake Islands and the Umbrella Islands as part of our journey. We will likely base camp for at least two nights which leaves lots of opportunity for relaxation, paddling and learning from two great photo-instructors.
The last day we'll paddle back to Snug Harbour having a final lunch enroute, arriving back at White Squall in the late afternoon.
As with all trips, we’re at the mercy of the weather and mother nature, so don’t be surprised if all of this changes. You need to have basic paddling & rescue skills and a camera!

Thom Morrissey has been photographing people and places for years all over the World - often the photographer for many local Parry Sound events & festivals. He's recently made the switch from film to digital and the learning curve is huge. Besides being an excellent photographer, he can educate you easily too - his day gig is a full time school principal! Thom has kayaked and camped on the Bay for many years
Your guiding staff consists of a lead guide and an assistant guide, with an apprentice leader often coming along for training. The lead guide is trained in Advanced Wilderness First Aid and has advanced kayak and rescue skills along with formal White Squall guide training. Typically, they are certified national instructors with Paddle Canada and have many years of tripping and guiding experience. The assistant guide is likewise highly trained and is often in a co-leadership role with the lead. The apprentice has been chosen for his/her outdoor skills and is in a learning position. The most important thing they need to learn is how to make the morning coffee!
