Batchawana Backcountry Ski Trip Jan '09

Batchawana Mountain (1 hour north of Sault, Ste Marie, Ontario - near Lake Superior - view it on google maps) is an annual favourite ski and winter camp destination. See photo gallery pics. This year the Squall staff and friends loaded up the snowmobile and toboggan and pulled our winter canvas tents into a base camp location on Batchawana Lake. Jack set up a prospector style a frame tent and Tim & Graham and friends set up a 6 person Tipi tent designed by Atuk Tents. From there we backcountry ski on 3 daytrips, mostly on telemark skis. We skined up the 1000 ft hills and skied back down through the trees. This year we had 2 meter base with a foot of powder! Heaven! Other than some aches and pains from some tough days of skiing (Graham also had a run in with a maple tree - grazed shoulder) all returned safe and sound to Parry Sound.
