Hoot and Blat for Late Summer |
We had our staff summer’s end party this week - and a bittersweet time it was. Many of the staff are leaving for school, work and other adventures. The biggest news is that Graham Ketcheson is leaving for Kingston this fall with his family, and we said goodbye in fine Squall fashion.
He’s been with us for over 15 years.....Kathy and I remember the first early spring when we trudged down Cole lake with him in ice and slush to visit a cabin he would stay in that summer. He was a bright eyed young outdoor leader, fresh from the Nahanni and ready to take on the wilds of Carling Township. Over time he became our senior manager - running the show with Heather and Patti when we’re out goofing around. He’s heading down the road, and the Squall will never be the same. If you have anecdotes or anything you want to pass on to him, please send em in.
On to other Squall news....
We have 4 spots come available for next week’s Island Art Retreat (Sept. 1-4) at Diamond Key Lodge. This late summer sojourn is being led by Jack Elliott and Siobhan Callaghan - and our Resource staff is Sharon MacKinnon - a great teacher, talented artist, paddler and world traveller. The focus is on kayak daytripping - with good meals and cozy cabins each night - and Sharon will be on hand to help people with sketching and painting. If you are interested, please get in touch before this Monday - thanks!
A few spots are open for our Bayside Inn Paddling weekend Sept. 26/27. We base out of the best little inn in Parry Sound with the most awesome paddler’s breakfast. Add in two kayak daytrips out in the 30,000 islands, and it makes for a pretty fine weekend. Please let us know if you would like more info.{rokintensedebate} |
