"We had a fabulous time on the Bustards trip this year and we are continuously impressed with the professionalism and enthusiasm of the guides, and the fantastic food.   We had a great group and definitely it was the highlight of my summer so far.

Hat and Bloot for March

Hello from Cole Lake.

Just want to remind everyone  of  our upcoming fundraiser on April 2 for Global Medic – an evening of outdoor and paddling films from the International REEL Paddling Film Festival.  Lot’s of reasons to come – most important is you’ll be helping one of Canada’s most effective disaster aid organizations – Global Medic. Director Raul Singh was named Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in the World for 2010.  He was interviewed by Peter Mansbridge this week about their work in Japan and Haiti.  It’s a Canadian group that gets things done quickly without fanfare,  We want to help them do what they do best.

To that end, we’ve created a unique outdoor gear silent auction that you can bid on right now!  We’ve had incredible support and are putting the items online at our website, on facebook and attached to this letter.  You can bid on them even if you can’t come to the evening.  All you have to do is e-mail your bid with contact info, and if you get it – we’ll be in touch to sort out how you can pick it up.  We can’t take credit cards for this so best is cash or cheque made out to Global Medic.  Check stuff out and see if you can help us and get something really cool – thanks!! pdf List of Auction Items

The evening starts with happy hour at 5:30 with boat/gear displays and the silent auction.  Films begin at 7 and we’ll be giving away a touring paddle that night.  Tickets are cheap - $15./adult and only $5. for students.  We  hope local kids will come and see what the wild outdoors, boats and water can do to make life worth running out and grabbing in all it’s wonder.  Please call the Stockey Centre in Parry Sound to book your seat  (705) 746-4466

We’ll be open full blast April 1 – hard to believe as we’re still skiing on the lake.  But the boats have been calling me all winter, saying “hey tim – forget those skinny pieces of junk – you know you want to paddle so let’s get on with it”  Been thinking about Bill Mason lately.  He taught us that paddling isn’t just quiet days in Algonquin – it can be part of spring break up and fall ice just as well.  I’ll never forget the scene in Waterwalker where he pushes his canvas canoe like a kick sled over ice and jumps in when it breaks through.   Sure you gotta be dressed for it, but why the heck not go and embrace that wonderful interface between ice and water.  Ok, I’ve talked myself into it.  Bye for now,  tim
