Hither and Yon in September

Labour Day Weekend rentals are not crazy, so if you were thinking of one last kick at the can before school – c’mon up.  We  still have clinic and daytrip spaces throughout September – so don’t be shy, give us a call and we can get you out where the phones don’t buzz and the only blog you’ll see will be one without an “l” in it.

We’ve put more of our used boats on sale – and they are desperate to have a new home.  I think they are quite tired of our antics and need a stable environment.

The Georgian Bay Storm Gathering (georgianbaystormgathering.com)  is fast approaching and we’re over half full – so if you were planning to come, get in touch pdq.  The early bird deadline is September 15.

The national Level 2 Sea Kayak Instructor course is a go and slated for the week leading up to the Storm Gathering – interested?  Call right quick.

Kokatat Paddling Suits are now on a further 15% discount – we always match the Co-Op price, and now I think we’re cheaper – never thought that would happen.  Hey, you can come to the White Squall “coop” (chicken that is) and get bargoons out your yin yang.  While here we’ll give you a lesson in how to lay an egg – it’s not that hard – in fact it’s soft and we’ll take a pic for your photo albumen.

Tim’s Tip
I’ve been playing around with making the forward stroke more powerful, and here’s a thought.  We try to get folks to track their top hand on a stroke horizontally in front of their face.  This encourages the face of the paddle to not lift water and create drag.  But – we all get lazy and drop that hand a bit……so I’ve been telling folks to consciously track their top hand in an upward slant in front of their face. Guess what – the result is a perfectly horizontal hand movement and a very powerful stroke.  Give it a try and tell me whaddyahtink.

Oh yeah, while you’re at it – the catch phase of the forward stroke is so important – and often paddlers have a firm grip on the shaft with their lower hand.  Problem is that results in the blade not centring itself on the sweet spot.  You’re  looking for that magic when you hit a golf ball really far – or a fine whack with a solidly hit baseball.  You can only get it if you let the blade insert itself in the dark water and self centre – a slightly relaxed grip will allow that to happen quickly.  A micro-movement with immediate results. Think I’m nuts – try it!

Thanks folks – bye for now……tim
