FRANKLIN CHALLENGE

Sunday June 25, 2023

Back to the beach for the 5th time! Our almost-famous circumnavigation of Franklin Island is alive & paddling again.

What’s the Franklin Challenge?

It’s a 20km wander around the island at your own speed – and yup, we have a shorter route for those who would rather drink beer back at Gilly’s. All of this fun and frivolity is to support the Georgian Bay Biosphere Outer Island Fund. We clean up crown land campsites and maintain Thunderboxes. Yup, those little pine boxes with a convenient hole in the top and a big pit on the bottom that you may have enjoyed on a windswept island is visible proof we truly care about your business. In the meantime, start dreaming of sitting out there on a fragrant wood box with a splendid view.

Where:

Paddle Begins at Snug Harbour

Plan for the Day:

  • 7 – 8 am – Check-in at Gilly’s Snug Harbour, unload boat at dock & park ~ volunteers will direct you
  • 8 am – Group meet-up & Paddle Talk
  • 8:30 am – Group launch
  • Upon completion ~ be sure to check-in at the dock

This is a fun day of paddling – NOT a Race Folks – and neither is it a walk in the park.
