Late Fall Hooting One of the joys of living in the country is to walk outside on a moonlit night to hear owls calling in the woods, ‘hey Tim – bout time for another hoot!’ So here we are… Outer Island Report After another wild turn around the sun, we found ourselves again on the outside islands in the summer sun, digging holes, digging more holes and gathering garbage flung by duckarses that oughta know better. Then we decorated the holes with wooden boxes so folks can poop in peace. You might think this is not so much fun but it truly is – and literally grounds you for those important things in life. We were helped by a wide assortment of like-minded folk, who just went and did stuff on their own, discovering it’s not rocket science. The full report is here: Outer Island Project |
Our Multi -Talented Staff Pete, Jan and Colleen have been busy making the gardens beside the Town Store festive for Christmas. All we need now is some snow. Stop on by and take your mug shots! We’d love it even more if you shared it with us on Facebook or through email – [email protected] . |
Ideas for Christmas Our little shop is chock full of great stuff big and small. If you’re flummoxed – no sweat, we have a gift for that. Squall Elves are poised over the keyboard ready to fire off an electronic gift certificate at the drop of a toque. Or you can pop by and get our amazing paper version. Either way, it’s never out of style and will get your problem sorted with a smile. 705-746-4936 or [email protected] |
Kayaks for Christmas! (or Canoes, or Stand-up Boards) Imagine the delight you will bring on with the gift of a boat on Christmas morn. We have a stocking stuffed with suggestions: https://www.whitesquall.com/kayak-canoe-sup/ and will deliver free on the Squall Sleigh for up to an hour away from world headquarters. Or…we can store it here for the winter for free, and send a wee model instead of a kayak or canoe so there is something magical to be opened up on the big day. Call anytime: 705-746-4936 or email: [email protected] and we’ll get back as fast as winter elves can. Painted Rocks Imagine smooth sinews of glacier-polished rock, interwoven with black volcanic strands. Jelly roll pinks & greys twisted and turned on end as if in a planetary blender. Remnants of giant mountain forming episodes over a billion years ago, bigger than Everest! Really the story of the entire north-east coast, but never so ‘in your face’ as at the Painted Rocks just north of Bayfield at the mouth of the main channel of the Naiscoot River. I find the magic of the Bay rekindled endlessly for me here and have spent many an hour, wandering and wondering how this all happened. The story of these ancient mountain roots is well told by Art Kilgour: https://artkilgour.com/2016/02/24/who-killed-ontario-himalayas/#more-1040 |
The Bay Beckons Well over 30 years ago, I wrote this call to explore the north-east coast. I just found it in the dustbin and wanted to share once more – but in your busy life, please scroll if there just isn’t time. Ok here she be: The Bay Beckons |
