Dr. Gerard Courtin of Laurentian University is aboard for this relaxing sojourn paddling to Big McCoy, which offers spectacular campsites with great views of the Mink and McCoy Island chain. Gerard developed our ecology programs at the Squall over 20 years ago and has a special way of interpreting the natural history stories of the bay. A botanist who has taught alpine and coastal ecology, Gerard also founded the only forensic botany department in all of Canada. That ain’t all! Try asking him about rock formations or cloud patterns or why winds might blow counter-clockwise! It’s like having David Suzuki at your side. Your days will be spent exploring the islands and with short hikes learning about the plants and animals that make up our unique coast, designated as a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve. Take time out to swim, read a book and generally kick back in this natural paddlers’ paradise.
